This is in a relatively undisturbed part of the Monongahela National Forest approximately 1 mile from any trails or roads. Surrounding forest is Acer rubrum - Betula alleghaniensis - Tsuga canadensis with a Rhododendron maximum understory.;No obvious impacts or disturbances. This is probably an early successional oxbow marsh.
Representativeness
We have not yet seen many Scirpus communities, but this one seems to be a relatively pure stand of reasonable size.
